For Lokisilvertongue LET IT GO, LET IT GO (frozen au)

It had been weeks since the death of both Maria and Howard Stark. It was a routine visit to a neighboring kingdom, but something had happened along the way, and they were gone. There were no details on their deaths, or even a simple explanation. Just one day they were bidding him farewell, and the next day, they were gone. Not only were they his parents, his only family, and leaders of their kingdom, but they were the only ones who knew his one secret.

He didn't know exactly what it was. It was simply something he'd had since he was a child. The simplest explanation was that there was a shard of ice in his chest, dangerously close to his heart. However, it wasn't that simple. For one thing, it never melted. Oh, and it glowed. Every morning for the past 20 years he would always wake up and stare at it's soft glow in the mirror, illuminating his face and chest. It was always cold to the touch and in the winter it would sometimes hurt. It was why as prince, he was rarely allowed to leave the palace and never in the winter seasons.

But finally tomorrow was the coronation. Tomorrow he would officially be king and as king, he could leave the palace whenever he wanted regardless of season. It still hurt that his parents were gone, and even as he thought about it, he could feel a pain in his chest as if the ice had moved. But he had to move on. They lived, they died, and it was his turn to run the Stark empire.

And in order to run the empire, he should know all of his parent's secrets right? That was why he was heading toward the tower behind the palace gardens. It was somewhere that had been banned since he could remember. Sure, he'd tried going on his own, but it was heavily guarded under his father's commands. However, under his own rule, there wasn't a single guard in sight. He had to resist the urge to shiver as he approached the large wooden door. It was still dark out, but it was still fairly warm considering it was summer. There was a part of him that wondered whether or not he should turn back, but he still carried on. His parents forbade him from going here for years and he wanted to know why.

He pushed the door opened and stepped inside.
